MULTIPLYING FRACTIONS

1. Multiply numerator X numerator (NO COMMON DENOMINATOR)

2. Make mixed number a improper fraction

3. cross reduce or simplify

Multiplicative Inverse/Reciprocal

DIVIDING FRACTIONS

Don’t divide; you multiply by the reciprocal…

1.     change division sign to multiplication

1. flip the second part of the problem…never the first!

EQUATION RULES:

Inverse operation means “undo”

*get variable by itself

*do opposite of what is being done

*if subtracting you must add the opposite

Multiplication Equations

Divide by the number that is with the variable on both sides of the equation (equals sign)

1.         either add or sub (use opposite sign/same #)

2.  Divide by # with variable (don’t change the number or sign)

*same signs= positive

*different signs= negative

PRIME/COMPOSITE NUMBERS:

Prime #’s:  greater than one, has exactly 2 factors, 1 and itself

Ex. 2,3,5,7,11,13,17,19

Composite #’s:  greater than one, has more than 2 factors

Ex. 4,6,8,9,10,12,14,15,16,18

#’s 0 and 1:  are neither prime or composite
